“The Young and the Restless” Star Marla Adams Dead at 85

Dina Abbott Mergeron on The Young and the Restless played by Marla Adams died. She was 85. PEOPLE says Adams died Thursday, April 25, in Los Angeles. No cause of death has been reported.

Adams competed in pageants before joining The Young and the Restless in 1982 as the Abbott family matriarch. Adams was Miss Ocean City and Miss Cape May after being born in Ocean City, New Jersey, on August 28, 1938.

Adams started performing while at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She starred as June in Splendor in the Grass in 1961 and in The Visit on Broadway in 1958.

She played Belle Clemens on The Secret Storm from 1968 to 1974 and performed in over 40 TV and film productions, including The Golden Girls, Hart to Hart, The Love Boat, The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of Our Lives, Generations, and Capitol.

In 2017, she returned full-time to The Young and the Restless after years of intermittent roles. She won a 2021 Daytime Emmy after being nominated in 2018. Adams is survived by her daughter Pam Oates, son Gunnar Garat, grandsons Gefjon and Stone, and great-grandson Remi.
